and Citi Smith Barney Corporate Cup

| On June 26, 2008 the Springfield Golf Classic Chairs, Steve Cour (Security Bank), LuAnn Kelker (US Bank) and Steve Bochenek (Sorling, Northrup, Hanna, Cullen & Cochran) along with Steve Patton (Citi Smith Barney) and American Lung Association Board Member, Bill Kempiners, presented a check in the amount of $114,000 to Dr. J. Kevin Dorsey, Dean & Provost of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine |
The American Lung Association's Springfield Golf Classic and Citi Smith Barney Corporate Cup is the premier summer golf outing in the Springfield area. Now in its 16th year, the Classic has continually grown in participation and money raised. Introduced in 2003, the Citi Smith Barney Corporate is the morning feature of the Event and identifies the best corporate golf team in the greater Springfield area.
Proceeds from the Springfield Golf Classic and Citi Smith Barney Corporate Cup benefit the Richard H. Moy, M.D. Pulmonary Research Fund. The American Lung Association established this fund in 1993 to honor Dr. Moy's 24 years of service as Dean of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. The Pulmonary Research Fund enables talented investigators to probe the basic science of lung biology through numerous research grants, and most importantly, provides local seed grants to researchers in hopes of advancing medicine for our community and nation.
In 2008, through the combined efforts of the committee and the greater Springfield business community, a $114,000 check was presented to the Pulmonary Research Fund for lung disease research.
To date, the American Lung Association has contributed over one million dollars to fund pulmonary research.
